K With Accent: Copy, Paste & Type
Use this page to copy k with a mark above or below it. The grid includes ḱ, ǩ, ķ, ḳ, and other forms, with capitals in their own group.
Lowercase k
Uppercase K
K with an accent above or below
Ḱ and Ǩ have different accents
Ḱ and ḱ have an acute accent, a single sloping line. Ǩ and ǩ have a caron, the small v-shaped mark. They may look similar at a small size, so compare the whole mark if you’re copying from a scan or a handwritten note.
The marks under ķ, ḳ, and ḵ
The letter ķ is named k with cedilla in Unicode. Its mark may look like a comma in the font you’re using. A dot underneath gives you ḳ, while a line gives you ḵ. Their capital forms are Ķ, Ḳ, and Ḵ.
A hooked k is a different character
The form ƙ has a hook built into its shape. It doesn’t mean k with an accent placed above it. If you need this letter in a word, copy ƙ itself rather than searching for a font that makes plain k look similar.
For a single letter, use the copy buttons above. Paste with Ctrl + V on Windows or Command + V on Mac; on a phone, touch and hold a text field and choose Paste. To write a longer message, open the online accent keyboard. You can also browse all accent letters from A to Z.

How to type k with an accent on Windows
Using a numeric keypad
There isn’t one Windows ALT shortcut for every marked k. A Unicode decimal number doesn’t automatically work as an ALT code. To enter ķ, use the Word steps below or copy it from the grid.
Type ķ with Alt + X in Word
Word for Windows can turn a Unicode hexadecimal code into a letter. For ķ, use 0137. You don’t need a numeric keypad for this method.
- Click where the letter belongs in your Word document.
- Type 0137, without the U+ prefix.
- Select just that code and press ALT + X.
- The selected code changes to ķ.
See Microsoft’s character-code instructions for more about these two methods. To look up another letter, use the ALT code directory.
On a Mac, phone, or tablet
In supported Mac apps, holding a letter key opens an accent menu. The choices depend on the letter, and less common forms may be missing. You can always copy ķ from this page and paste it with Command + V. On a phone or tablet, tap a copy button here, then use Paste in the app where you’re writing.
Unicode and HTML codes for accented k
Use this table when you need the character’s code rather than the letter itself. Unicode identifies the character; the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript columns show ways to write it in code. For a normal message or document, copying the letter is enough.

K with an accent: common questions
A little help choosing and typing the right character.
Choose ķ for a cedilla, ḳ for a dot below, or ḵ for a line below. The uppercase group has Ķ, Ḳ, and Ḵ.
No. The mark under ķ is a cedilla, often drawn like a comma. The mark under ḳ is a dot. Use the one in your source text.
Type 0137, select it, and press Alt + X. That gives you lowercase ķ. The code for capital Ķ is 0136.
